We are celebrating 20 years in business this year. From the basement of our founders’ home to a 24,000 square foot warehouse, DreamWise has come a long way since 1996.
There have been a lot of laughs, a few tears over the last 20 years. Here are 8 of our unforgettable moments:
Starting Out in the Basement
It was a struggle running a direct mail business in a basement. There was literally tons of direct mail pieces to carry up and down the stairs and who could forget the 1980’s era white Volvo Station Wagon that we used to deliver the mail to the Post Office?
Too Many Pallets for 1 Garage
We quickly outgrew the basement and moved the operation to our garage. It was a three-car garage but that didn’t help when we got in a project that had 15 pallets. We were literally climbing over pallets to get to the machine and there was no room to stand. We had to sit on a pallet while sorting mail.
A Real Building
Our neighbors weren’t too happy with all the trucks and we weren’t too happy with the cramped garage so we soon moved to our first building. And for the first time in many years we weren’t working in our pajamas!
New Year’s Vroom Vroom
We have had so many interesting projects over the year but one that stands out was a shipping tube that made the sound of a race car when it was opened. Every tube had to be opened to insert materials inside so we spent New Year’s Eve listening to the constant sound of race cars as we rushed to finish the project.
A HUGE Building
As the company grew we needed more room for storage and new equipment. In 2003, DreamWise moved from a 3,000 square foot space to a 20,000 square foot space. It was HUGE and it was hard to believe that we would ever fill it up but in a few months we had the building filled up quite nicely.
Habitat for Humanity Day
In 2003, we decided that we wanted to do something to give back to the community so we shut down for a day and donated our time to Habitat for Humanity. This has become an annual tradition at DreamWise (we now serve Mount Saint Vincent) but the first year was an experience not easily forgotten. We spent the day painting townhouses alongside one of the future owners.
A New Name
DreamWise was originally called DW Mail. As we expanded beyond mail into print, order fulfillment, design, and more the name no longer fit. In 2012, DW Mail became DreamWise Marketing and moved into a new building. The new name came with a lighter identity that better represented the enjoyable atmosphere that has always been a part of DreamWise.
9News Stops By
One winter day the owners were lamenting about how many homeless people they were seeing out on the street without the proper gear for the winter. They decided to do something about it and Spread the Warmth was born. Spread the Warmth is a nonprofit organization that gives gloves to those in need during the winter. One day 9News stopped by and covered the glove sendoff on their morning news broadcast.
